Apprenticeships with Airbus
There are a wide range of Airbus Apprenticeship roles on offer at more than 25 sites across the UK. You can apply for an Airbus Apprenticeship in one of four key areas: Commercial Aircraft, Helicopters, Defence and Security, and Space. Roles are usually in Engineering or Commercial functions.
The UK is one of the founding nations of the Airbus group, and one of the brand’s four home markets. Every wing on Airbus commercial aircraft is designed and made in the UK. In fact, more than 1,000 wings are made every year at the Airbus site in Broughton.
More than 6,000 staff work at the Broughton site, which has a proud tradition of aircraft manufacturing for more than 75 years. As well as making aircraft wings, the site is also home to support functions such as purchasing and finance. Airbus has invested more than £2 billion in the Broughton plant over the past 10 years.
Airbus’s Filton site is home to more than 4,000 people, who work on the design, engineering and support for Airbus wings, fuel systems and landing gear. There are also teams of people who work on aerodynamics research, as well as R&D and testing.
In total, Airbus employs more than 15,000 people in the UK, with sites all across the country from Aberdeen to Portsmouth. The Airbus Apprenticeship programme has also trained more than 4,000 Apprentices in the last 10 years.
Most Airbus Apprenticeship roles take between 3 to 5 years to complete. Roles with Defence and Space or Helicopters require 3 or more GCSEs. However, roles with Commercial Aircraft require at least 2 A Levels. The Airbus Apprenticeship programme also includes roles in Engineering which will allow you to work towards a Degree while also working full time at Airbus learning new skills.
During the Airbus Apprenticeship programme, you will also attend events such as air shows, careers events and schools’ liaison activities, where you can tell people about what you do. One of the most well-known events is the Farnborough Air Show which takes place every two years. This is not only a trade show, but also one of the most popular air shows in Europe.
Furthermore, during the first year of your Airbus Apprenticeship, you will spend a week on an Outward-Bound course in the Lake District. This will include a lot of fun activities, such as map reading, raft building and mountain climbing. You’ll also learn how to plan and present. By the end of the course, you will have a better understanding of Airbus values and culture. This will help in your future development and career.
