Apprenticeships with Berthon

There are a wide range or Berthon Apprenticeship roles available in various departments across the business. The Berthon Apprenticeship programme is a 4 year progamme, with additional training provided by Brockenhurst College.

Berthon is a family business which has been trading continuously for more than 100 years. In addition to a full-service Marina with 280 deep water berths, the company offers the following facilities: a Yacht Sales and Brokerage, new boat design and build, refit and renovation, and general marine servicing.

The company provides boatbuilding, refits, maintenance and in-service support for clients such as the RNLI, Ministry of Defence, UK Border Force, Port Authorities and commercial boat operators.

Berthon fully understands the demands placed on government and commercially operated boats and has an experienced team of marine project managers and engineers that oversee all boat building, repair and refit work. The company employs over 100 skilled craftsmen including marine engineers, electricians, riggers, painters, joiners, shipwrights and apprentices, who work at modern shipyard facilities in Lymington, Hampshire.

Berthon repairs, refits and builds boats that are used around the world in a diverse range of roles for both public & private sector clients. Berthon’s boatyard forms part of the 40,468 sq/m site, which includes engineering workshops, spotlessly clean undercover heated sheds, paint booths and boat moving equipment. With direct access to the Solent and the English Channel, sea trials can be undertaken in both sheltered or open waters, at all states of tide.

Boatbuilding sectors include search and rescue, pilotage, patrol, defence, survey, windfarm and hydrographic survey. From a complete design and build of a series of boats, to a system fit out and engine installation of a bespoke prototype, Berthon’s Boat building team can design and deliver a package to meet any requirements. In fact, Berthon has built 38 all weather, self-righting lifeboats for the RNLI. It has also built a number of pilot, patrol and survey vessels for other commercial workboat clients.

The company also prides itself on the standard of work accomplished in its big blue sheds. From the recently completed build of 12 brand new RNLI Shannon class lifeboats, through to minor winter refits, every commercial vessel emerges from the sheds with the high standard of care and attention that Berthon is famous for.

Berthon also has the most modern yacht painting spray facility in Europe. The state-of-the-art booth is flanked by two similar size preparation booths which allows a dust-free spray paint finish every time.

Furthermore, Berthon provides sales, installation and service support for the full range of marine electronic products carrying all the top brands. Whether clients require a full or part electronics upgrade, Berthon can advise, fit and commission all aspects of the installation.
