The Bombardier Apprenticeship programme offers opportunities in Engineering in both Aerospace and Transportation.

Bombardier design, build and service high-performance aircraft. It sets the standard of excellence in several markets, including business, commercial and amphibious aircraft. In addition, Bombardier provides a range of specialised aircraft solutions and aircraft services and training.
The company is also a leader in the rail industry. It covers the full spectrum of rail solutions, ranging from complete trains to sub-systems and maintenance services, as well as system integration and signalling. Bombardier has a base of rolling stock which exceeds 100,000 rail cars and locomotives worldwide.
Bombardier Aerospace, Belfast, is one of the UK’s leading aerospace companies. The site is a Bombardier centre of excellence for the design and manufacture of aircraft fuselages, engine nacelle systems, wings and flight control surfaces, and for processes such as advanced composites and computer-aided design and manufacture.
In addition to its headquarters in Belfast, where administration, engineering, fuselage and wing production are based, the company has several other facilities located a short distance from the city. Customer services and composites production, including engine nacelles, are based at Newtownabbey and further composites production takes place in Dunmurry. Sheet-metal component production is based at Newtownards.
Bombardier has built, or has on order, 60% of the UK’s trains and the company is contracted to service over 5,000 vehicles. The company’s new MOVIA metro trains are making a vast difference on the Victoria and subsurface lines in London, offering increased capacity and improving reliability.

Roles Available with Bombardier
The Bombardier Apprenticeship programme offers opportunities in Engineering as follows:
- Engineering – 3 years
- Electrical and Mechanical Engineering
- Spray painting
Aerospace Apprenticeships are based in Belfast, or other nearby sites in Northern Ireland.
Transportation Apprenticeships are based at the main Bombardier manufacturing site in Derby, or in the Rail Engineering Environment in the London area, servicing and maintaining trains.
Education Requirements for Bombardier
The education requirements for the Bombardier Apprenticeship programme are as follows:
- Craft Apprenticeship – 2 GCSEs at Grade C or above in Maths and English.
- Technical Apprenticeship – 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above in Maths and English, as well as 2 further subjects, 1 of which must be Physics or Double Award Science.
