Apprenticeships with CLAAS
The CLAAS Apprenticeship programme offers Agricultural Technician Apprenticeships in partnership with its UK dealership network.
CLAAS Global Headquarters are in Harsewinkel, in the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The company is the European market leader in combine harvesters. CLAAS is also the global market leader in a further major product category of self-propelled forage harvesters. Furthermore, its tractors, agricultural balers and grassland harvesting machines rank at the top in worldwide agricultural engineering. The product range also encompasses state-of-the-art agricultural electronics and software solutions for farming applications.
The Apprenticeship programme is offered in conjunction with Reaseheath College near Nantwich in Cheshire and Barony College near Dumfries. The programme produces highly qualified Technicians capable of servicing and maintaining increasingly sophisticated agricultural machinery.
In the first three years, Apprentices work towards a National Diploma in Landbased Technology, which is equivalent to three ‘A’ Levels. This is through a combination of on-the-job training under the supervision of an experienced CLAAS technician, and block release training at College. During the programme, Apprentices also have the opportunity in Year 2 to train at the CLAAS UK headquarters at Saxham and then in Year 3 at the CLAAS Group headquarters in Harsewinkel, Germany.
In the fourth year, the students will work to achieve additional elements that will ultimately accelerate their contribution to the dealer network, enhance their qualifications and boost their career potential.
Long gone are the days of agricultural mechanics just relying on a set of spanners and a heavy hammer. With engines of up to 800hp, modern tractors, forage harvesters and high capacity combine harvesters are highly technical machines. Advanced technology includes telematics, satellite navigation, laser guidance, integrated hydraulics, as well as sophisticated on-board computer control systems.
To service and maintain such machines, the CLAAS Agricultural Service Technician need to understand how to use sophisticated diagnostic equipment.
A CLAAS dealership employs the Apprentice full-time during the 4 year programme. When attending College, students will have residential accommodation and access to all the leisure and recreational facilities that Reaseheath and Barony have to offer.
