Apprenticeships with Colas Rail
There a range of Colas Rail Apprenticeship roles at locations all across the UK, in both Rail Engineering and Business Administration. The Colas Rail Apprenticeship programme was introduced in September 2017 and the company recruited 12 apprentices across the business.
Colas Rail is one of Europe’s leading suppliers of railway infrastructure services, constructing and renewing all forms of railways across Europe and the UK. The company is also the only rail contractor in the UK to be part of three major Rail Alliances. This demonstrates the company’s collaborative credentials and ability to deliver value through early contractor involvement and effective supply chain management.
There are a million more trains on the railways today than a decade ago. That is why Colas Rail delivers crucial rail infrastructure renewals in the South of the UK using an ‘Alliance’ approach, combining the skills of contractor, designer and client. The three alliances are as follows:
Midland Metro Alliance
The Midland Metro Alliance is expanding the tram network by 32km, helping to enable social and economic regeneration across the West Midlands. This represents an investment £1.3bn.
As a result, this 10 year programme will create links with HS2, mainline railways and Birmingham airport. Furthermore, it will create a truly integrated transport solution and drive urban regeneration for the extended West Midlands region.
S&C South Alliance
The S&C South Alliance is a partnership between Colas Rail, AECOM and Network Rail. This work is part of Network Rail’s track renewals programme for the 2014-19 funding period, where it will renew more than 7,000km of track as part of a £25bn investment programme to build a bigger, better railway for Britain.
Wessex Capacity Alliance
The Wessex Capacity Alliance is a collaboration between Colas Rail, Skanska, Mott MacDonald and AECOM, as well as Network Rail. It will deliver £400million of improvements for a bigger, better London Waterloo, the UK’s busiest railway station.
As a result of this investment, platforms 20-24 of the former Waterloo International Terminal will be brought back into use. In addition, this work will include modern facilities, new track, signalling and a layout to cope with thousands of domestic passengers. Furthermore, extending platforms 1-4 will allow ten-car trains to run to London suburban stations.
Colas Rail also provide a diverse range of other Rail services, including:
