Apprenticeships with Ferrari
The Ferrari Apprenticeship programme was launched in 2011 in partnership with the official UK dealer network. Ferrari introduced the programme to bring new talent to the famed Italian sports car brand. This is because much of the technology, diagnostic systems and service processes are unique to the company. Initially, the programme started with Service Technicians. However, due to the success of the programme, the company quickly included other roles within the dealership.
In fact, the Ferrari Apprenticeship programme is the only route into a role with one of their dealerships. With a very limited number of roles available at the brand’s 12 UK dealerships each year, competition is understandably incredibly high. Roles available depend on the staff requirements at each dealership and can vary from year to year.
Ferrari is also unique in the motor industry because it also trains Apprentices to service and repair Classic Cars. The company has an ambition to ensure that all Official Ferrari Dealers have the skills to service and maintain older cars going back as far as 1947. In 2017, Ferrari introduced a Classic Car Technology training module for 3rd Year Apprentices, at the same time that several UK dealers achieved “Officina Classiche” status. The Classic Car Technology module includes training on the following:
- Ballast resistor ignition systems
- Magneto ignition systems both single and twin
- Dynamo charging systems
- Twin points distributor set ups
- Multiple Webber carburetor set ups, from 3 to 6 carbs
- Mechanical fuel injection systems
- Straight cut dog mesh gearboxes.
The Ferrari Apprenticeship programme includes 8 weeks of training per year with either Ferrari or a College partner, depending on the role chosen. The company holds a Graduation Ceremony at Silverstone each year, as part of the Ferrari Racing Days weekend. This ensures Apprentices understand the importance of being an ambassador for the Prancing Horse.
Roles Available with Ferrari
The Ferrari Apprenticeship programme offers the following roles, depending on the needs of individual dealerships each year:
- Service Technician
- Service Advisor
- Parts Advisor
- Body Repair and Paint
The Service Technician and Body Repair apprenticeships are 3 year programmes, while the Service Advisor and Parts Advisor roles are 2 year programmes. All training is carried out at Ferrari UK’s head office and training centre to the west of London, or in partnership with EMTEC College in Nottingham.
