Apprenticeships are available in either Security & Property, Technology Services, or Business Services.

Technical Engineering
On this three-year programme, you’ll learn your trade on critical engineering projects that just can’t fail. This can include anything from CCTV and secure communications to intruder detection systems and counter-eavesdropping measures.

Project Management
In the first year of this four-year programme, you’ll spend time in the various corporate areas of FCO Services, gaining a valuable insight into how the organisation works. From then on, you’ll work on live projects, both in the UK and overseas, developing your project management skills and complementing your studies towards an IPMA Level D qualification.

Project Management – Information Technology
On this two-year programme, you’ll learn how FCO Services deliver some of the most complex IT projects around. In addition, you will work alongside and learn from, experienced project managers and even head up smaller projects of your own. And all while studying towards a Level 4 Associate Project Manager qualification.

Information Technology
The FCO Apprenticeship in IT is an 18-month programme that will give you a detailed understanding of the technological threats governments face, as well as developing the skills you’ll need to overcome them.

Finance
This three-year programme is the perfect start to a career in Finance, as well as a stepping-stone to management. Through a series of placements tailored to your interests and aspirations, you’ll gain an in-depth understanding of the Finance operation and the key dynamics that influence the important decisions FCO Services has to make. At the same time, you will study towards a Level 7 Accountancy/Taxation qualification.

Security Design Engineering
On this four-year course, you’ll learn how to design the advanced security systems that protect buildings and structures, both in the UK and overseas. You will also study for a BEng or a BSc in Engineering, fully-funded and supported by FCO Services.

Building Services Engineering
If you’ve got a keen interest in design and construction, this is where you can use them to help keep the nation safe. As well as supporting your studies towards a BEng or BSc in Building Services Engineering, this four-year course will give you lots of practical experience, working on critical projects both in the UK and overseas.

Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
Over the course of three years, you’ll get to grips with everything from panel vans to diplomatic limousines. You will also work towards a Level 3 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.

Education Requirements for Foreign and Commonwealth Office

  • 5 GCSEs including Maths, English and a Physics or Engineering-based subject.

Project Management

  • At least 96 UCAS points and 5 GCSEs including Maths and English Language.

Information Technology

  • 5 GCSEs and 1 A Level in a STEM subject.

Finance

  • A degree or Level 4 qualification with a relevant body.

  • 5 GCSEs including Maths, English and a Physics-based subject, as well as A Levels worth 128 UCAS points, including Maths and Physics.

Building Services Engineering

  • A Levels worth at least 128 UCAS points and 5 GCSEs including Maths, English and a Physics-based subject.

  • 3 GCSEs including Maths and English.
