MRT Castings are manufacturers, machinists and assemblers of high quality aluminium die castings and the company offers Apprenticeships at its location in Andover, Hampshire.
MRT Castings produce components for a diverse range of industries, from designer light fittings to advanced medical devices, and from hi-fi equipment to weapons control systems.
The company won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade 2016, recognising MRT’s outstanding growth in export sales in the previous 3 years during which time export sales grew by 330%, with international trade now representing 56% of the company’s total business. The company specialises in the following areas:
High pressure die casting
MRT have high pressure die casting machines with locking forces of between 220 and 530 tonnes. All feature computerised real-time shot control, automatic ladling, die-spray, automatic casting extraction and cooling.
Gravity Die Casting
MRT have a range of microprocessor controlled hydraulic gravity die casting machines, which mechanise movements of the die, increasing production rates, and improving consistency. The machines offer tilt pouring, and hydraulic movement on up to four axes. MRT also have facilities for producing sand cores to cast complex internal shapes.
Sand casting offers the simplest medium for production of non ferrous castings, by pouring molten zinc, aluminium or copper into a sand mould.
MRT Castings has have over 20 industry-leading CNC machining centres and CNC turning facilities. The company CNC machines die-castings produced in its own foundry, as well as components cast by other processes, as well as CNC machining from extrusion and solid.
Metal Surface Finishing
MRT supplies a wide range of metal surface finishing processes, including:
- Ball Burnishing
- Powder Coating
- Silk Screen Printing
- Vibratory Finishing
MRT offer mechanical and electro-mechanical assembly, testing, kitting, and specialist packaging. The company has a dedicated assembly unit with facilities for warehousing of components, and designs and manufactures dedicated jigs and fixtures to ensure a consistent and productive assembly process.
MRT Castings has 4,000 sq ft. of dedicated warehousing facilities adjacent to the company’s main production site, and the company has its own fleet of vehicles for deliveries to UK clients.
Roles Available with MRT Castings
MRT Castings recently introduced an Apprenticeship training programme, with the aim of recruiting a number of Apprentices each year. In 2017, roles available with MRT Castings included:
- Manufacturing Engineering Apprentice
Candidates will gain experience in tooling and process design, aluminium die casting, trimming, CNC machining, electro-mechanical assembly, inspection and quality control. As the apprenticeship progresses there will be the opportunity to specialise in specific production areas.
