Apprenticeships with P & A Wood (Rolls-Royce & Bentley)
P & A Wood‘s ‘Classic Vehicle Restoration Apprenticeship Scheme’ offers apprentices the opportunity to work with world class craftsmen on some of the world‘s finest and most famous motor cars. Successful applicants will train for a minimum of three years exclusively with Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars.
This prestigious scheme is designed to share the specialist skills required to restore and maintain all pre-war, post-war and modern Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars and ensure that these skills continue to thrive within the company. Apprentices will learn about all aspects of the business, including mechanical maintenance, servicing, coachwork and restoration.
The Classic Vehicle Restoration Apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with North London Garages (NLG) Automotive Academy at Level 2 (24 months) and Level 3 (a further 12 months), with an optional bespoke 4th year programme for selected apprentices. Students gain experience in each department, working alongside skilled craftsmen on pre-war, post-war and modern motor cars.
Due to the specialist nature of the work undertaken, apprentices will also attend ‘master classes’ which will be delivered by P & A Wood’s own experts. As apprentices gain confidence and experience, the tasks performed will increase in responsibility on the journey towards becoming a master craftsman. The apprentices will then begin to specialise according to their talents and the requirements of the company.
A modern version of the traditional ‘Indentured Apprenticeship’ used in the early days of Rolls-Royce, the programme combines classroom-based learning with practical skills relevant to pre-war, post-war and modern motor cars. Apprentices will attend P & A Wood’s own in-house classroom where they will be taught the engineering principles and theory behind each system and process. They will gain practical experience of working on components and vehicles, and participate in events and enrichment activities throughout the programme, each training day consisting of a theory session supported by a practical session, with training supplemented by specialist demonstrations from a skilled member of the P & A Wood team.
Throughout the programme, apprentices will participate in special projects, assist with the renovation of units and represent P & A Wood at events and competitions. Skill areas include engine, chassis, electrical, transmission and drivelines, paint and preparation, panelling and fabrication, trim, fitting and accident repair; events include the Goodwood Revival and the Classic Car Show at Birmingham‘s NEC.
