Apprenticeships with Ricardo
The Ricardo Apprenticeship programme offers a range of roles across all areas of the business as well as at many of its UK sites. Ricardo is a global engineering, strategic and environmental consultancy with Global Headquarters in Shoreham-by-Sea.
Founded in 1915 by Sir Harry Ricardo, the company now employs over 2900 engineers, scientists and consultants, in addition to various support staff around the world. Ricardo has 16 different sites in the UK, as well as a presence in over 15 countries internationally.
Ricardo also specialises in providing engineering services for a range of key strategic industries, including:
- Energy and Environment
- Motor Sport
- Off-Highway Vehicles
- Strategic Consulting
The Automotive division works for a large number of automotive manufacturers, including McLaren Automotive. Especially relevant, Ricardo manufactures and assembles the range of V8 engines which power all models within the McLaren range. However, a Ricardo Apprenticeship role may be assigned to the Automotive or any other department, according to the needs of the business.
Ricardo is also at the cutting-edge of developing hybrid and electric vehicles, with particular expertise in autonomous driving and connectivity. In 2015, Ricardo opened its new Vehicle Emissions Research Centre at its Shoreham site. As a result, the company has a world-class facility that will enable the development of next-generation of clean, low carbon vehicles.
Furthermore, Ricardo’s Motor Sport division offers a range of services for clients in the racing environment, including:
- Component, system and powertrain design, from feasibility analysis and conceptualization to sign-off
- Research, simulation and analysis
- Strategic and technical consulting
- Component, system and powertrain engineering and testing
- Niche-to-volume manufacture
The Motor Sport division has also been involved in setting a number of Land Speed Records, including the LSR for a diesel-powered vehicle at over 350mph with the JCB Dieselmax which was powered by Ricardo engines. The speed record was set in 2005 and still stands to this day. The JCB Dieselmax car can be seen at the British Motor Museum in Gaydon.
