Apprenticeships with SKODA
The Skoda Apprenticeship programme offers a variety of roles in partnership with the brand’s UK Dealer Network.
The Skoda brand is part of the Volkswagen Group of companies, but it has its own unique identity and heritage. Originally founded in 1895 by Vaclav Laurin and Vaclav Klement, Skoda actually began life as a manufacturer of bicycles. The company’s first bicycle was called the “Slavia”. Soon after, the company offered a range of five different Slavia models, including a lady’s bike and a hybrid bike. The bicycle range continued to expand with tandem bikes ‘for two gentlemen’ and ‘for a gentleman and a lady’. Skoda also produced children’s bikes, delivery tricycles and speciality bicycles with a drive shaft.
Skoda began making motorcycle sin 1899 and cars in 1905. The company’s very first car, the Voiturette A in 1905, could reach speeds of 25mph. In 1924, the bicycle company merged with Skoda Works, a large industrial company, and the Skoda name appeared on an automobile for the very first time.
Even 120 years later, the company’s love for two wheels has never wavered, and Skoda continues to sponsor many different cycling events and tours throughout the year. These include the Tour de France, the most famous bicycle race in the world, as official sponsor and vehicle partner, as well as RideLondon, The Tour Series and the Tour of Britain. In 2014, long after the original Slavia of 1895, the company decided to launch a brand new bicycle to relive the origins of the company’s ethos and heritage.
Skoda has a long history of involvement in motor sport, particularly in Rally where it has competed either as a Factory Works team or through Privateer Entries since the early 1970s. Skoda’s pinnacle of success came in the International Rally Championship (IRC) when it won 3 consecutive Drivers Championships and Manufacturers Championships from 2010-2012 with the Skoda Fabia S2000. More recently, the company had its most successful single year in the history of Skoda Motorsport in 2016, when the Skoda works team of Esapekka Lappi and Janne Ferm won the Drivers’ and Co-Drivers’ title in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC 2), Skoda drivers Gustavo Saba and Gaurav Gill won the continental championships in South America and the Asia-Pacific region in the Skoda FABIA R5, Nasser Al-Attiyah was victorious in the Middle East Rally Championship, while a further ten national titles also went the way of the Czech car maker.
Skoda’s current product range of cars includes the Citigo, Fabia, Rapid, Rapid Spaceback, Octavia, Superb, Karoq and Kodiaq models.
