BAE Apprenticeships

There are a wide range of BAE Apprenticeships at various sites all across the UK. These include roles in Engineering, Design, Business, Finance as well as Manufacturing. You can apply for BAE Apprenticeships at one of four levels, depending on whether you have 3 or 5 GCSEs, or also have A Levels.

BAE Systems is a global defence, aerospace and security company with more than 60 sites in the UK. Worldwide, BAE employs more than 80,000 people. Almost half of those work in the UK. BAE Systems designs and builds a wide range of products for the UK’s air, land and naval forces. It also provides advanced electronics, security, IT, and support services for the defence industry.

As well as the UK, other key markets for BAE Systems include Australia, India, Saudi Arabia, and the USA. BAE Systems is also present in sectors such as: Future Technologies; Air, Land and Sea; Cyber Security and Intelligence; Electronics; and Services.

 

BAE Apprenticeships: Intermediate

Scaffolding (3.5 years):
You will receive training both on site and in college, working as part of a team. In this role, you will learn how to safely erect and dismantle working platforms both inside and outside of submarines.

BAE Apprenticeships - 2017-04-1717-1875

 

BAE Apprenticeships: Advanced

You will need to have at least 5 GCSEs to apply for BAE Apprenticeships at Advanced level.

Technician (4 years):
You will receive training both in the classroom and the workshop on a range of engineering skills relevant to your specific role. This could include aeronautical, design, marine or systems.

Craft (3.5 years):
You will learn how to work on complex products such as submarines, surface naval ships or aircraft. Roles include: plumber, fabricator, welder, fitter, electrician, sheet metal worker, painter, and pipe worker.

Business (2 years):
You will complete placements with the commercial, legal, purchasing or project management teams. You will also study for an A Level in Business Admin.

IT (2 years):
You will complete placements in business analysis, project management, procurement, testing, security and development.

These BAE Apprenticeships are based at either Warton, Barrow, Portsmouth, or Glasgow.

BAE Apprenticeships: Higher

Aircraft Maintenance (2 years):
You will learn how to support and maintain a range of military aircraft in the UK or abroad.

After the first year at Humberside, you will move to an RAF base or BAE Systems site in the UK. Future roles could see you work at an RAF base abroad.

Electrical (3 years):
You will cover the full range of subjects, such as: power engineering, control and instrumentation, and communications.

Software (4 years):
After the first year at college, you will complete placements with BAE’s Naval Ships. In this role, you will learn about combat systems, software design, product safety, platform and software security, as well as networks.

Finance (5 years):
You will learn how to complete management reports, budgets, accounts, project finance plans and other projects.

Procurement (5 years):
You will learn how to research, source, buy, deliver, store and maintain all the parts and goods needed for BAE Systems to operate. You will also focus on purchasing, logistics and transport, strategy, governance and capability.

These BAE Apprenticeships are based at either Barrow, Frimley, Glasgow, New Malden, Porstmouth, Telford, or Warton.

BAE Apprenticeships - HMS FORTH sea trials

 

BAE Apprenticeships: Degree

To apply for BAE Apprenticeships at Degree Level, you will will need to have A Levels in relevant subjects for the role.

Aerospace (5 years):
You will work towards a BEng, while also completing a range of placements within BAE’s Air sector. You will spend 4 days a week at work, and 1 day a week at University.

Nuclear (5 years):
You will work towards a BEng. In Years 1 to 3, you will complete a range of placements which will give you an insight into all aspects of nuclear. During Years 4 and 5, you will then specialise and work exclusively in one role.

Software (4 years):
You will learn how to programme, as well as how networks and wireless systems are used in the workplace.

These BAE Apprenticeships are based at either Barrow, Brough, Warton, or Yeovil.

Chartered Management (4 years):
You will complete placements in HR, Finance and Purchasing.

Project Management (4 years):
You will work alongside experienced project managers to deliver projects on time and to budget.

This BAE Apprenticeships role is based at either New Maldon, Preston, Portsmouth or Warton.
