Car Mechanic Apprenticeship - Vauxhall Apprentices - Vauxhall Service Technician Apprentice - Engine Diagnostics

Car Mechanic Apprenticeship

There are a wide range of Car Mechanic Apprenticeship roles on offer with main dealers and independent service centres all across the UK. These include Car Mechanic Apprenticeship roles working on service and repair of new and used cars, or in the fast-fit or body repair sectors.

Most Car Mechanic Apprenticeship roles take 3 years to complete, and require around 18-24 weeks of training on a block release basis at the company’s training centre. The rest of the time is spent learning on the job, with training and guidance from Senior Technicians with many years experience.

To apply for a Car Mechanic Apprenticeship, you will need to have at least 3 GCSEs for most roles. Some roles will require 5 GCSEs, but there are also a few companies who are willing to receive applications from those without any GCSEs if they can demonstrate the right attitude and ability. During the Car Mechanic Apprenticeship training period, you will be expected to complete further studies to ensure you meet the GCSE levels required before the end of the 3 year programme.

In this blog, we will take a brief look at just a few companies which offer Car Mechanic Apprenticeship roles. For a full list, or to search for a Car Mechanic Apprenticeship by region, please click here.

I am looking for a car mechanic apprenticeship in Scunthorpe or Doncaster, I am good at working with people, I am cheerful and I am very interested in working with cars. I hope to see you in the near future.

Hi Luke. There are plenty of car mechanic apprenticeship opportunities in the Scunthorpe and Doncaster areas. I suggest you use the filters on the left of the Find Apprenticeships page (https://www.iwantobea.com/apprenticeships/) to filter down the companies of interest. Filter by Region (Yorkshire & Humberside), then filter by Roles – click “See More” to reveal the full list. The ones you should focus on are the “Service Technician” roles for either Cars, Bus & Trucks, or Off-Highway Vehicles. I would also strongly suggest looking at the Bus & Trucks and Off-Highway Vehicles, as these are just as good an opportunity, but not many people think about them. There may be something really close to you with a Truck company like Iveco or Scania, or you may be lucky and find a role with a local car dealership. You could also apply for a Classic Car Apprenticeship if that is of interest. Spend some time on the Apprenticeship pages and filter down to the type of roles in your area, and then you can apply directly to the company using the links provided (if you are registered with iwantobea.com for access to these links). Most car brands advertise their apprenticeship roles during the Spring for a start in August/September, so now is the time to start looking. Good luck with your search.

    Hi,
I am a careers adviser at Largs Academy, Scotland. I have been on your site with a pupil looking to find apprenticeship opportunities in Scotland but I have been unable to find any.

Are there any available at the moment? How do I find these?

    Many thanks
    Paul

    • Careers Coach on 18th March 2019 at 8:02 pm

Dear Paul. Many thanks for the comment. I wrote a blog about exactly this subject last year: https://www.iwantobea.com/apprenticeships-in-scotland/. This gives you a brief introduction to some companies which recruit Apprentices all across Scotland, depending on the needs of each business throughout the year. If you follow the links provided in this blog, you will be taken to a page about each company’s apprenticeship programme. If you are registered with the website, the “Register Now” button at the bottom of the page will change to “Apply Now” – and that will take you directly to the recruitment page for each company, where you will be able to find out if the company is hiring right now. If not, you can still find out what qualifications are needed and when to apply.
You can also search specifically for Apprenticeships in Scotland via the main Find Apprenticeships page here: https://www.iwantobea.com/apprenticeships/. Then simply select Scotland from the list of regions under Location, and then filter further by Industry, Role or Qualifications. The site is growing all the time, but hopefully the companies already listed are a good start.
I hope this has been useful for you to advise your students. If they want to receive a weekly newsletter with direct links to current apprenticeships recruiting right now, then they will need to register with the website – simply providing their name, email, postcode, and confirming parent’s permission if under 18. We do not sell anyone’s data to third parties, and we are fully GDPR compliant.
      Best regards,
      The Careers Coach
