Aston UTC

In 2012, the Aston UTC opened on the Birmingham Science Park. Aston UTC offers 14-19 year olds in the Birmingham area the opportunity to specialise in and study for technical qualifications in engineering and science as part of their GCSE and A Level curriculum.

The Aston University Engineering Academy teaches students technical and scientific subjects in a whole new way and is educating the inventors, engineers, scientists and technicians of tomorrow. Students can choose to study Extended BTEC Diplomas, and business and industry standard qualifications in engineering and science, alongside the traditional academic subjects such as English and maths.

The Aston UTC is located at Birmingham Science Park, immediately adjacent to its main sponsor, Aston University. It works closely with the University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science and many local employers, as well as leading engineering companies, who provide sponsorship, advice on the curriculum and access to mentoring, masterclasses, state of the art learning facilities and work-based experiences. These enhance the secondary education provided by the Aston UTC and prepare students for life after school.

A key differentiator for the Aston University Engineering Academy is a focus on the wider enrichment through an employer-linked project curriculum and club night, which ensures that students leave Aston University Sixth Form with not only high academic outcomes but a wider holistic experience, maximising their potential and preparation for employment.

Aston University Engineering Academy supports all routes into the workplace, including Higher and advanced apprenticeships, further study at university, or straight into a job.
