Coventry University

Coventry University has a world-class reputation for attracting students from all over the globe to its several automotive courses. In addition, the University is ideally located in the West Midlands, the traditional heartland of the UK automotive industry. It also has excellent connections with local automotive companies for work experience and placements. Furthermore, Coventry University is the only university in the world to offer a Master’s Degree in Automotive Journalism.

Coventry University – Automotive Engineering:

Automotive engineers design, test and develop vehicles and/or components from concept to production. During the first two years, you will broaden your perspective and understanding of basic engineering principles. You will then focus on how engineering science is applied to automobile design, development and manufacture.

Coventry University – Automotive and Transport Design:

This course aims to develop your understanding of the latest developments, drivers and practices of the automotive, transport and mobility designer beyond merely illustration and styling. Hence, you will have the opportunity to learn to create innovative product design solutions in a range of styles and media. Using both digital and physical 3D modelling, you will gain a deeper understanding of digital tools and visualisation techniques.

Coventry University – Motorsport Engineering:

Motorsport engineers can work on the design, testing and production of performance vehicles or become part of a racing team responsible for improving performance before, during and after a race. This course is designed to develop your analytical skills and knowledge of the fundamental scientific and managerial concepts of engineering required to carry out a comprehensive range of mechanically related tasks, in areas such as stress, temperature, kinematics and dynamics. Therefore, teaching is highly practical, focused on providing a thorough understanding of the fundamental principles of motorsport engineering and, more importantly, how this knowledge is applied in the industry.

Coventry University – MA Automotive Journalism:

First of all, this course aims to immerse you in the world of automotive journalism and, consequently, to equip you with the skills needed to become an automotive journalist. Coventry University students have attended press launches to write about new cars, and have also reported from press day of the Geneva motor show. Students also write for an unique live blog or write articles on motoring issues and motorsport for the University’s in-house Automotive magazine and website.

Consequently, this course will provide you with the essential knowledge and practical skills required for a successful automotive journalism career. While you will work with tradition print, audio and video content, you will also be working with multiple forms of media. You will also embrace new technologies and create parallel digital content, including social media, blogs and web-based content.

Coventry University students will also learn the key techniques required for a career in automotive journalism. These include how to work with press offices to obtain vehicles for testing, and then how to evaluate and describe vehicles for specific audiences. The course also covers other forms of automotive journalism including news writing, interviewing, motorsport reporting and writing about classic vehicles and automotive history.
