De Montfort University

The De Montfort University campus in Leicester is one of the finest in the country. The University recently invested £136 million to make it the very definition of a modern 21st-Century place to study. Since De Montfort University is located right in the heart of Leicester, it blends the historic with the new. It respects the tradition of the area and its buildings, while simultaneously creating a new legacy of its own.

The stunning new Vijay Patel Building houses the Art and Design courses in a building as creative as the students who study there. De Montfort University has also restored Leicester Castle which is located on the edge of the university campus. This gives new life to this historic gem, which is now the base for the Leicester Castle Business School.

De Montfort University – Product Design (BA):

On this course, you will study the human functional and market-led requirements of product and furniture design. This includes ergonomics and aesthetics usability, as well as the application of technology. Specific areas include Visual Language, Branding, User-centred Design, Computer Aided Design, Sustainability, as well as the development of Socially-conscious Products.

De Montfort University – Product Design (BSc):

On the BSc Product Design course, you will study the fundamentals of maths and science, electronics, simulation and fluid dynamics, as well as the functional and market-led requirements of product design. Specific areas include Technology Integration, Computer Aided Design, Sustainability, as well as Design for Manufacture.

De Montfort University – Product Design (MA):

At the MA Product Design level, you will gain new insights within the field of product design. You will develop an enhanced understanding of design practice, as well as learning design and research methodologies. The course will also explore how emerging digital technologies can be applied to design. At the same time, you will deepen your knowledge of business, global markets and sustainability.

You will study a variety of core and elective module choices, creating a personal programme of learning focused on your individual interests and ambitions. These studies culminate in the final term where you will undertake a comprehensive design project within your own specialised area of product design.

De Montfort University – Mechanical Engineering (BEng):

The course can be studied as a three-year BEng (Hons) programme, or as four-year integrated master’s MEng (Hons). Students in the DMU Racing team design and build a single-seat racing car, which is also tested at the famous Silverstone Circuit. World-leading research in aerodynamics, fluid systems, transportation, manufacturing and sustainable development influences the curriculum. Students benefit from industry-standard facilities including a Control and Dynamics laboratory, as well as an engine test cell laboratory.
