Lincoln UTC

Lincoln UTC provides a unique opportunity for students aged 14-18 who are passionate about Science, Engineering and Computing. Its students learn academic and technical skills in very practical methods – using cutting edge technology and facilities that have been used to meet the needs of a challenging curriculum and their industry partners, who are the future employers of Lincoln UTC students.

The academy works closely with local employers such as Siemens to identify top engineering talent, and Lincoln UTC students have the opportunity to apply for a Siemens scholarship which provides bespoke mentoring and work experience, giving an invaluable insight into a career with such a prestigious company.

Lincoln UTC believes students should be given educational opportunities which are grounded in industry-experiences and lead to progression into university or the workplace. Together with its partner companies, the UTC provides unique opportunities for students, contributing to developing the next generation of talented Scientists and Engineers to work and study with Lincolnshire businesses.

Core studies in subjects including Mathematics and English are combined with highly specialist studies in Engineering and Science, which ensure students have strong career opportunities in the future, whether it be locally, nationally or internationally. Studying for an array of GCSE, Cambridge National, A Level and BTEC qualifications, students are immersed in the worlds of academic and industry.

Lincoln UTC’s Engineering workshops replicate the industrial spaces found in the workplace and contain state-of-the-art machinery with the facilities to build and test many prototypes. By using the latest industrial-level equipment, students apply their skills to current, real-life engineering projects. From 3D printers to CNC routers and control sensor test beds, each workshop is equipped with an array of cutting-edge technology to allow specialist study in a range of Engineering disciplines. Within the UTC’s dedicated workshops, students can take a concept from design to creation or work with various business partners to explore and develop new solutions to tomorrow’s problems.

Students explore a wide range of applications in dedicated and highly technical science laboratories. A wide range of industry grade equipment enables them to explore science at a research level, using autoclaves, spectrometers, electrophoresis devices, spectrophotometers and DNA extraction tools. Rather than extracting DNA over 6 hours, students can watch DNA form in less than 6 minutes, while Physicists, Chemists and Biologists will start their career pathways using equipment found in research laboratories at leading Universities and businesses.
