University of Liverpool

The University of Liverpool was established in 1881 and can truly claim to be the original ‘redbrick’ university. This phrase was coined about the University of Liverpool’s distinctive red brick Victoria Building.

The University is rightly proud of its founding mission: ‘for the advancement of learning and ennoblement of life.’ It is inscribed on a plaque on the Victoria building and it remains the University of Liverpool’s mission today. Furthermore, it underlines a belief in the transformative power of research and education, not least in the face of an increasingly complex and challenging world.

Mechanical Engineering

A degree in Mechanical Engineering is also the basis for a professional career in a broad range of industry sectors.

Graduates from the University of Liverpool go on to work in fields such as medicine and healthcare, sustainable power generation, environmental technology, food production, sports science, aerospace, automotive, construction, nuclear, mechatronics & robotics, industrial product design, manufacturing, and project management. Engineering graduates are also in demand in sectors such as accountancy, management consulting, and logistics. More than any other discipline, a degree in Mechanical Engineering is preparation for an enormously wide range of careers.

The University of Liverpool’s degree programmes offer an exciting blend of learning experiences designed to ensure students not only master the scientific fundamentals, but also develop the skills, attitudes and experience demanded by 21st century engineering and society. Furthermore, the ethos is to spend as much time outside the lecture theatre as possible. Students spend a significant amount of their time working in teams to apply their learning in the solution of practical problems, or in the design, building and testing of new products processes and systems. As a result, University of Liverpool graduates are very well prepared for their careers ahead, and industry recognises them as highly employable.
