Story Contracting is a family-owned award winning Infrastructure company based in the North of England and Scotland. The business has a national reputation for providing construction, plant and rail solutions. In addition, the company won the Network Rail Supplier of the Year award in 2014.
Furthermore, Story Scotland is expanding beyond the rail sector as part of a five-year plan to double its turnover to £40m. The company has worked on a series of high-profile projects in the rail sector. These include the £5m Queen Street tunnel track slab replacement in Glasgow, as well as the £2.5m Stirling station canopy replacement for Network Rail.
Other projects include the St Ninian’s level crossing replacement in Stirling and the renewal of the canopy glazing over platforms five and six at Inverness station. Story Rail also delivered the platform extension at North Berwick station. In addition, at stations including Blairhill in Coatbridge and Elgin in Moray, Story Rail installed “Access for All” bridges.
The Story Rail team consists of 52 members. However, the business is now expanding its civil engineering work into other areas, including construction and plant hire.
Story Scotland is based in Carlisle, and has revenues of £120m a year and employs more than 600 people. The company’s five-year business plan will see turnover doubling to £40m per year. This will allow the company to make further investments in both Story Rail Graduate Jobs and the Apprenticeship programmes to help meet growth targets across the civil engineering sector.
Story Contracting recently won the contract to deliver “Edinburgh Waverley Platform Works” on behalf of Network Rail. The project will involve platform extensions, building refurbishments, installation of walkways and escalators and associated work. This in preparation for new longer electric trains to accommodate the 30 million passengers who use Waverley Station each year. The project should last for around 12 months, and is vital in the continued development of the station.
