How to find a Job in Formula 1

How to find a Job in Formula 1 is perhaps one of the most exciting ambitions for any young motorsport fan. A job in Formula 1 is undoubtedly a dream.

The UK has always been at the forefront of the Formula 1 grid, both with Constructors, Engines and, of course, Drivers. The first Formula 1 Grand Prix was held at the Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire in 1951, and the UK has also hosted F1 Grand Prix at Aintree, Donington, and Brands Hatch.

Especially relevant is the fact that the UK is home to 6 of the Formula 1 teams competing in the championship. A 7th team, Haas F1 also has a technical and logistics base to assist with the preparation and shipping of cars and materials between races. All of these teams are based in what is known as “Motorsport Valley”, which stretches across the Thames Valley, Oxfordshire, and also Northamptonshire.

With so few Formula 1 teams competing in the series, there are actually very limited opportunities available and many more people chasing those opportunities than there are vacancies. As a result, competition is just as fierce to secure a job with an F1 team as it is between the F1 teams for a win on the track, and only the best will win.

The good news, however, is that the F1 teams based in the UK are actually quite large organisations with hundreds of people working across many different departments. Most of them offer a range of either Apprenticeships or Graduate Jobs in design, engineering, testing, manufacturing, logistics, event management or sponsor relations.
