Motorcycle Technician Apprenticeships

If you have a passion for motorbikes, you will be pleased to know there are may Motorcycle Technician Apprenticeships on offer all across the UK. BMW, Honda, Suzuki and Triumph all offer Motorcycle Technician Apprenticeships through their Dealer Network. These roles are aimed at young people who want to learn how to service and repair two wheelers as a career.

It can take up to 3 years to complete these Motorcycle Technician Apprenticeships, depending on the brand. You will be employed full time at a local dealer, who will provide most of the training on the job. However, you will receive further training on block release at the brand’s own training centre. This is to ensure you are up to speed with the latest products and repair procedures.

Honda and Suzuki also offer Motorcycle Technician Apprenticeships in All Terrain Vehicles, or ATVs. Both brands ATV product line-up includes a range of Quad Bikes, for use on farms and other off-road uses. Honda’s ATV range also includes the unique 2 or 4 seat Pioneer UTV. Both models are fitted with a tilting pick-up style bed which can carry up to 386kg.

Motorcycle Technician Apprenticeships – BMW R1200GS Rallye

 

There are 38 BMW Motorcycle Dealers in the UK, selling a range of BMW sports and touring motorbikes. These include the S1000RR and the legendary “GS” which starred in “The Long Way Round”.

It takes 3 years to complete the training with BMW, while working at your local BMW Motorrad Dealer. You will also attend block training courses at the BMW Group Academy UK in Berkshire. This includes both classroom and workshop training, to ensure you are up to speed with the latest products and BMW repair systems.

You will also attend a Welcome programme at the Plas Menai Watersports Centre in Wales. Here, you will take part in a range of team building exercises both on and off the water. This may include sailing, gorge walking, power boating, canoes and kayaks, rope walking and climbing – all under the trained eye of expert tutors.

To apply, you will need to have at least 3 GCSEs. You will work towards a NVQ Level 2 and Level 3 in Motorcycle Maintenance and Repair.

Motorcycle Technician Apprenticeships – Honda Pioneer

 

Honda’s Motorcycle Technician Apprenticeships scheme offers roles as a:

  • Service Technician – Motorcycles
  • Service Technician – ATVs
  • Parts Advisor

There are 95 Honda Motorcycle Dealers across the UK, including 8 in Scotland, 3 in Wales, and 3 in Northern Ireland. There are also Honda dealers on the Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, and the Shetlands.

Both Honda Motorcycle Technician Apprenticeships take 2.5 years to complete. You will learn how to service and repair Honda’s current product range through both classroom and workshop training modules. You will also attend 14 weeks of block training at Honda’s training centre in Bracknell. To apply, you will need to have at least 3 GCSEs.

Suzuki’s Motorcycle Technician Apprenticeships scheme offers roles as a:

  • Service Technician – Motorcycles
  • Service Technician – ATVs

Each of the Suzuki Motorcycle Technician Apprenticeships take 3 years to complete. You will also attend 17 weeks of block training at the brand’s Training Centre in Milton Keynes. This has the latest Suzuki service tools for you to learn how to service and repair the full range of products on both two and four wheels. Once you have completed each training module, you will be expected to take the skills you have learned back into your Dealer workshop.

To apply, you will need to have at least 3 GCSEs. You will work towards a NVQ Level 3 award in Motorcycle Maintenance and Repair.

Motorcycle Technician Apprenticeships – Triumph Street Scrambler

 

There are 47 Triumph Dealers all across the UK, including 3 in Scotland, 2 in Wales, and 1 in Northern Ireland. The brand also has Dealers on Jersey and the Isle of Man.

It takes 3 years to complete the Apprenticeship, and you will work towards a City & Guilds award in Motor Vehicle Engineering. The programme also includes 17 weeks of training at the brand’s training centre in Hinckley. During the training, you will learn how to service and repair the latest products from Triumph.

To apply, you will need to have at least 2 GCSEs, at Grade C in English and Maths. However, if you do not yet have these grades, you can still apply. But you will need to take on extra learning outside of the training to achieve these grades.
