Motorsport Apprenticeships - M-Sport Apprenticeship - Bentley Continental GT3

Motorsport Apprenticeships

If you are looking for Motorsport Apprenticeships, your first thought will no doubt be to approach the F1 teams based in the UK. Unfortunately, only Mercedes AMG Powertrain and Renault Sport Racing F1 offer Motorsport Apprenticeships. You can find more details in our blog here: F1 Apprenticeships. So, as there are only two f1 teams which offer Motorsport Apprenticeships, you will need to look further afield to find your dream job if you want to work in motorsport.

In this blog, we will take a brief look at four other companies which offer Motorsport Apprenticeships. Two of these run racing teams which compete in the WRC and the FIA WEC, as well as other series. They all provide engineering services to motorsport, so they are a great place to start your career.

Motorsport Apprenticeships – Ricardo

Ricardo is an engineering company which is based in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex. It has more than 3000 staff who work at 16 sites all across the UK. It also operates in 15 countries worldwide.

While an Apprenticeship with Ricardo will mean you are not directly part of a motorsport team, many of the projects it works on are for motorsport companies. For example, Ricardo makes more than 4,500 V8 twin-turbo engines for McLaren’s range of supercars. Some of these will be for the McLaren GT3 and other McLaren race cars. Ricardo also makes transmissions for the Japan Super Formula series, the BMW M6 GT3 race car, and the Bugatti Chiron.

It has also provided engines and other services for many Land Speed Record attempts. In fact, Ricardo engines powered the JCB Diesel Max to a new Land Speed Record for diesel-powered cars of more than 350mph in 2006. The car was driven by Wing Commander Andy Green, who also holds the outright Land Speed Record of 763mph, which he set in 1997 at the wheel of Thrust SSC.
