The UK offers some of the most exciting and rewarding Motorsport Jobs anywhere in the world. With many of the F1 teams based here, the UK is known for being at the front of the grid for motorsport technology.
However, it is not just in F1. There are also a wide range of Motorsport Jobs with motor racing teams all across the UK. But, very few of the racing teams offer Apprenticeships or Graduate Jobs for young people. So where else can you get a job in motorsport if you can’t find one with an F1 or other racing team?
The answer is with engineering companies which design, build, test and race all sorts of cars. Or with companies which develop new technology for motorsport. In this blog, we will take a brief look at just a few companies which offer either Apprenticeships or Graduate Jobs for young people.

Motorsport Jobs: M-Sport
M-Sport is owned and managed by Malcolm Wilson who has more than 40 years’ experience at the highest level of Rally and Endurance Racing. The company builds and races the works teams for Ford in the World Rally Series, and for Bentley in Endurance racing.
M-Sport launched an Apprentice programme in 2017, with roles in Electrical Engineering. The company plans to expand the scheme to other depts, such as Transmissions, Hydraulics, Sub Assembly and Engine shop, in the future.
Recent Graduates in Motorsport or relevant engineering subjects can also apply to M-Sport for a role as a Junior Engineer. You will have the chance to work closely with either The Race Team, Rally X teams or WRC engineers. You will also attend various tests and events, and be involved in the R&D of new systems and ideas.

Motorsport Jobs: Prodrive
Prodrive has managed motorsport programmes for some of the greatest names in motorsport: Porsche, Aston Martin, Subaru, BMW, MG, Ford, MINI, Honda, and Alfa Romeo. Mathwall offers Graduate Jobs in motor sport engineering, including historic racing engines. The company designs and develops full powertrain systems, and can also specify, design, and build test rigs to a client’s needs. It designs and operates test rigs from its own facility in Surrey.

There are a range of Motorsport Jobs for Graduates at Xtrac’s base in Thatcham, Berkshire. These are for 1 year in either Engineering or Operations and are open to students prior to the last year of University.
Xtrac is a world leader in the design and manufacture of transmission systems. They support a wide client base which covers top level motor sport and high performance automotive.
To apply for a placement with Xtrac, you will need to be studying for a degree in aeronautical, automotive, or mechanical engineering. Applications open in October, for roles starting the following August.
