Coventry Transport Museum

Coventry Transport Museum houses the largest publicly owned collection of British vehicles in the world, and tells the fascinating story of Coventry and its people through the rise and fall of its biggest industry.

The museum can trace its origin to the 1930s with the donation to the city of the Bartleet cycle collection. In 1980, the collection grew so large that a new museum was created. As a result, the Museum of British Road Transport became Coventry Transport Museum in 2001 and now proudly showcases the city’s transport legacy through its vehicle manufacture, design and innovation.

The collection also includes both the record-breaking Land Speed Record cars, Thrust2 and ThrustSSC. Furthermore, the museum houses a number of motorcycles which took their owners on incredible adventures. The museum also displays the oldest Coventry-built car and many of the most innovative and memorable road vehicles of the last 150 years.

The Coventry Transport Museum also includes a thematic series of exhibitions which document the history of the automobile and public transport from the late 1800s to the modern day, and Coventry’s place in that history:

  • Cycle Pioneers 1868 t0 1900
  • A New Industry 1900 to 1914
  • First World War 1914 to 1918
  • The Growth of the Motor Industry 1918 to 1939
  • Second World War 1939 to 1945
  • Rebuilding Coventry 1945 to 1950
  • Motor City UK 1950 to the present

The museum also includes some themed areas such as Workdays and Holidays, Model World, Transport Technology, Future Technology, Jaguar Heritage, and Coventry Champions.

Furthermore, the Coventry Transport Museum’s collection is housed in a stunning and architecturally-significant and purpose-built facility in the very heart of Coventry. The Museum moved to this site in 2015.
